Chambers feeling the pinch

Chambers of commerce and other business organizations are feeling the strains of the recession as members drop out, sponsors hesitate to spend money and attendance to events dwindles.

The situation has forced such groups in the region to reassess how and what they are doing to retain and attract members, generate revenue and stay relevant at a time of job losses and tightened budgets.

For the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, any significant pullback in membership means less power, particularly when it comes to lobbying City Hall or Harrisburg.
